WWE Superstars: That’s What I Am and Melina vs Beth Phoenix
Footage of the Santa Barbara Film Festival’s coverage of “That’s What I Am”. It seems like this movie is actually going to have the best scores from critics of any of WWE’s previous attempts at movies. It doesn’t even feel like a WWE movie. Randy Orton’s impact seems to be minor.
They also hype The Rock’s birthday some more and then have a promo for Tough Enough. There are two eliminations this Monday.
It’s not time for the RAW portion as Melina approaches the ring. Scott Stanford and Josh Mathews on commentary. Both Melina and Beth Phoenix get some good pops from the crowd. Right from the opening bell, Phoenix uses her muscle to push Melina onto the ropes. Upon the break from the referee, Melina lays in a right hand which barely stuns the Glamazon. An attempted Irish whip by Melina is countered into Phoenix trying for the Glam Slam, which Melina countered by hooking the ropes. Phoenix just manhandles Melina and locks her into a tree of woe on the turnbuckle.
After whipping her into the opposite corner, Phoenix runs into a boot by Melina and then gets thrown into the turnbuckle, shoulder first. Melina then throws Phoenix’s feet to the other side so that she is almost lying on the middle rope. A nice pair of knees to Phoenix and Melina is screaming her head off.
Melina appears to have broken a nail. Let’s see what impact this has on the match. Instead of wrapping Beth’s arm around the ropes, Melina is twirling her hair around it. Just painful stuff. A two count for Melina follows and she then continues the assuault on Phoenix with the ropes.
Stanford has been recapping the history between these two and brings up Extreme Rules from two years ago, when the two had an “I Quit” match. A nice job by Stanford since I completely forgot about that. Oh, the good old days of the Divas division…
Melina with a nice series of submission holds. They finally mention Kharma as Phoenix throws Melina off of her. They exchange blows and Phoenix gets a nice clothesline on Melina. An atomic knee drop and a double axe handle follow as Phoenix is building momentum. Phoenix does a lower ankle lock-type submission and actually uses Melina’s foot to drive into her lower back. Not even a two count as Melina did not really seem to want to stay down. Melina screams, goes for a kick and misses.
Melina, now in a full split, gets her arms taken by Phoenix as she preps for the Glam Slam. Phoenix had a very glamorous cover on Melina for a three count and victory. I cannot wait for Kharma and Phoenix to collide one of these days.
