Joe Hart saved A.J. DeLaGarza’s penalty and then scored the winner in the ninth round of a shootout as Manchester City beat the Los Angeles Galaxy 7-6 on penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw Sunday.

Mario Balotelli was pulled by Manchester City coach Roberto Mancini after he broke in on goal, then turned around and attempted to score by backheeling the ball into the net. Read more info…

Canadiens sign D Josh Gorges to 1-year contract

MONTREAL—The Canadiens have re-signed Josh Gorges, bringing the defenseman back to Montreal on a one-year contract.

Gorges had a goal and six assists in 36 games last season. He had 18 penalty minutes and averaged 21:10 seconds of ice time per game. The 26-year-old defenseman, who has played with Montreal for six seasons, sustained a season-ending injury to his right knee on Dec. 26 at Long Island.

“Josh is recovering extremely well,” Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier said. “We look forward to seeing him at training camp.”

NFL labor: Players’ committee to meet Monday

NEW YORK (AP) — A vote on a settlement to the lockout is what every NFL fan wants. Nobody is sure when that might happen.

The players’ executive committee will meet Monday in Washington after lawyers have worked through the weekend on issues that are holding up an agreement with the owners. Several people with knowledge of the meeting have told The Associated Press that no vote to recommend a deal is certain Monday.

The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the players association has not revealed its plans.

Owners approved a tentative agreement to end the four-month lockout on Thursday. But the players said they need more information before they can vote, and took issue with portions of the proposal. S

Cadel Evans: From nearly man to Tour champion

PARIS (AP) – Until now, Cadel Evans was better known for the things he didnt achieve than for the ones he did.

That all changed with his victory Sunday in the Tour de France, catapulting Evans from cyclings nearly man to global star – a position he already holds in his native Australia.

Evans took a call of congratulations from Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard after he secured the title on Saturday in the time trial ahead of Sundays largely ceremonial final stage in Paris.

The pair joked about the economic consequences to Australia because Evans fans have been staying up in the middle of the night to watch him race on the other side of the world.

I’ve lost all respect for Tiger, fumes Williams

SACKED caddie Steve Williams has slammed former boss Tiger Woods, saying he has lost respect for golf’s fallen idol.

Though their parting after 12 hugely successful years was not made public until this week, Williams revealed that the news was broken to him by Tiger on Sunday at the AT&T Championship earlier this month.

“I met with Tiger after the completion of the final round,” explained the New Zealander, who caddied for Aussie Adam Scott at that tournament and in the US and British Opens as Woods was laid up by knee and Achilles tendon injuries.

“I’d say I was very disappointed,” he said.
