Return to Russia brings Tatyana McFadden ‘tons of fulfillment’

NEW YORK — No matter how much she tried, Tatyana McFadden couldnt shake the idea.

She had similar thoughts growing up and no matter how many times she asked her mom about it, deep down she knew she wasnt emotionally prepared to act on it. But this was different.

She was ready to revisit her roots.

Born with a disability that left her paralyzed from the waist down and into a world unable and reluctant to provide the care that she needed, Tatyana overcame myriad obstacles and through a chance encounter at an orphanage in Russia, she found a loving mother willing to rescue her from those substandard dwellings to an existence of possibilities in America.

Bruins Bounce Back with 5-4 Win in Toronto

The Bruins escaped Toronto with a 5-4 victory Wednesday, improving to 5-0 against the Leafs this season. Goals coming from the top and bottom of the line-up helped the Bruins get the win.

Jordan Caron is in the middle of his best stretch of pro hockey, with three goals in the last two games.

The Leafs hung around and had a chance to tie it up with a six on four advantage in the final 17 seconds but couldnt get it done.

Documents: Vikings Minneapolis stadium deal financials

ST. PAUL, Minn. The Minnesota Vikings could stay in downtown Minneapolis, in a new stadium on the existing Metrodome site, under an agreement announced Thursday by the team, the city and state officials.

Under the plan released this morning, the Vikings would pay for roughly 50 percent of the construction and operating costs, with about $427 million coming upfront. On top of its contribution to construction costs, the Vikings will pay $11.5 million annually to stadium operating expenses, and $1.5 million annually for capital improvements.

Kickboxing Ontario to oversee amateur MMA

The Ontario government under Premier Dalton McGuinty, once an obstacle to mixed martial arts, is now recognizing Kickboxing Ontario as the governing body for the amateur game.

Last year, the McGuinty government allowed an Ultimate Fighting Championship event for the first time.

Injured Kostelic hopes to ski in World Cup season

ZAGREB, Croatia (AP) – Overall World Cup leader Ivica Kostelic says he hopes to return to competing within a month despite having a knee operation.

The defending overall champion underwent surgery in Basel, Switzerland, after partially tearing cartilage in his right knee during his super-combined victory in Russia on Sunday.

He said upon return to Croatia on Wednesday that the best case scenario would be returning on March 10 at the World Cup slalom race in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

Kostelic holds a 70-point lead over Beat Feuz of Switzerland in the overall standings. The Croat clinched the super-combined title with Sundays victory.
