Browns fans have a new super hero. His name is Phil Taylor, and if he sees a quarterback in a Steelers uniform, Taylor plans to plant him in the sod.

Taylor about 45 minutes before the draft resumed on Friday met with reporters covering the Browns and was informed within a minute after the Browns drafted him Thursday an exuberant fan tweeted: “Welcome to Cleveland.

Capitals put collapse in past, advance with win over Rangers

WASHINGTON – Led by Alex Ovechkin, the Washington Capitals dumped the New York Rangers 3-1 on Saturday to advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs and bury memories of last year’s post-season collapse.

An inspired Ovechkin set up Washington’s first goal then scored the second as the Capitals wrapped up their best-of-seven quarter-final 4-1 to join the Detroit Red Wings in the second round.

A year ago, the top-seeded Capitals had been in the same commanding position, leading the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 before suffering one of the most stunning collapses in the Stanley Cup playoffs as they lost three straight to be bounced from the opening round.

But this season there would be no letdown as Ovechkin, Mike Green and Alexander Semin provided the offense while netminder Michal Neuvirth turned in another outstanding effort handling 27 shots.

Czech Neuvirth narrowly missed out on his second shutout of the series when Wojtek Wolski scored with 32 seconds to play.

Mutai runs fastest marathon ever at Boston

BOSTON – Kenya’s Geoffrey Mutai won the Boston Marathon Monday in two hours three minutes and two seconds, the fastest time ever recorded over the grueling distance.

Mutai slashed almost a minute off the official world record of 2:03.59, set by Ethiopia’s Haile Gebrselassie at Berlin in 2008, but his time was not ratified as a new record because he was aided by a tailwind on a hilly course with too much downhill from start to finish.

“Boston marathon performances cannot be ratified as world records as the course does not satisfy two of the criteria for world records,” USA Track and Field told Reuters.

Mutai’s countryman Moses Mosop, competing in his first marathon, also smashed Gebrselassie’s mark to finish second in 2:03.06 after the two Kenyans ran stride for stride through the capital of Massachusetts before unleashing a final sprint to the finish line in Boylston Street.

“I was not coming to break the world record,” Mutai told reporters.

“For me, today was good weather.

Doughty leads Kings past Sharks in Game 2

SAN JOSE, Calif.—The talk before Game 2 centered on how much Los Angeles was missing in the middle of the ice. Drew Doughty and Jonathan Quick showed the Kings still had plenty of pieces left even without two of the team’s top centers.

Doughty had two goals and two assists, Quick made 34 saves and the Kings beat the San Jose Sharks 4-0 in Game 2 on Saturday night to even the first-round series at one game apiece.

“We had a lot of adversity before this game with two of our top centers out,” Doughty said. “I guess a lot of people didn’t think we had a chance tonight. I guess we showed those people wrong. We played a hard, solid team game. T
